Habitat and Substrate: Most common in open pine woods, growing on sandy soil.

Rhode Island Status: Uncommon.

Pollution Tolerance: Sensitive to intermediate to acid rain.

Collection Site(s): Queen River, Exeter (#5007, #5008); Black Swamp Area, North Kingstown (#5491); Elm Grove Cemetery at Allenton, North Kingstown (#5512); Big River Wildlife Management Area, West Greenwich (#5544); SR-146, North Smithfield (#5627).

Notes: Previously reported in Rhode Island by Flenniken (1968b) from Carolina Trout Pond, Richmond.
