Habitat and Substrate: Exposed to shaded areas, on soil and soil-covered rocks.

Rhode Island Status: Uncommon.

Pollution Tolerance: Intermediate.

Collection Site(s): Factory Pond, South Kingstown (#4981); Casimir Pulaski Memorial Park, Glocester (#5071).

Notes: Previously reported by Bennett (1888) and Riddle (1909). Poorly developed specimens are easily confused with the Cladonia chlorophaea group.
