Habitat and Substrate: Shaded and protected areas, on rock, usually vertical slopes.

Rhode Island Status: Uncommon.

Pollution Tolerance: Intermediate.

Collection Site(s): Crandall Swamp, Westerly (#4857); Grass Pond, Richmond (#4923); Ell Pond, Hopkinton (#5047); Blue Pond, Hopkinton (#5336).

Notes: Recently segregated from Umbilicaria vellea and not previously reported in Rhode Island.
